The other day, I was working on a big, new project. I knew extracting the most frequent terms and translating them from the start would help me in the long run. It might seem like it’s an unnecessary step since we can retrieve those translations from the translation memory. However, it’s more a matter of taking control over the quality of your work.
Following this preproduction step, you can later on focus solely on the translation task. Once you have defined your DNTs (Do Not Translate Terms) and other terminology, you will appreciate making use of different shortcuts to enter those glossary terms within your Translation Editor, saving you many key hits and much time in QA. That’s right! When running the QA, having a clean copy of your glossary would also save you a great deal of time in correction.

Note the 5 key steps to use Rainbow:
- Download Rainbow from the Okapi Framework site
- Upload the source text(s)
- Set the encoding and language of the source text(s)
- Set up your preferred configuration on how to extract terms
- Click on execute
That’s it! Now, you may copy and paste the output text on a spreadsheet and clean up and translate your list of terms.
